Golden Giants defeat Mudcats

The Topeka Golden Giants defeated the Chillicothe Mudcats 8 -4 at Hummer Sports Park on Tuesday. The bottom of the 7th was again kind to the Giants, they scored 6 runs via three 2-run home runs by Jake Dean, Daniel Heflin and Nick Carlson.

The Giants continue the home stand against the Beatrice Bruins tomorrow night at 7 p.m.

Just a note about tonight's opponent: the Bruins have 4 players on their roster who just saw extensive playing time with the Huskers in the College World Series: Andy Gerch (hit 9th inn. HR Tuesday), Ryan Wehrle, Joba Chamberlain, and Tony Watson. I have no idea whether they'll suit up for the Bruins 26 hours after their college season ended, but who knows? Maybe they'll want to get back on the field to wash the bad taste out of their mouths?

I actually found myself rooting for Nebraska yesterday just in hopes of delaying their arrival. We'll have to deal with them next week for sure.
