The MINK League baseball race has hit the home stretch.
With two weeks left in the season, Topeka is in third place but nipping at the heels of first-place St. Joseph, and the Golden Giants drew closer with a 9-8 win over the Mustangs on Tuesday at Lake Shawnee.
The Golden Giants (16-11, 15-10 MINK) came back from a 5-0 deficit, scoring nine runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to edge the Mustangs (20-11, 16-10 MINK).
From the St. Joseph News-Press:
This was the first of a stretch of three crucial games this week against the Golden Giants, who will host St. Joseph again on Thursday, then come to St. Joseph for a Friday night clash. The Mustangs have held a thin lead over Chillicothe in the MIAA’s North Division, with Topeka a close third.
Tuesday night’s victory gives the Mustangs their second straight loss, following a road setback Sunday at Chillicothe.
Topeka has won four of its last five, after having its three-game winning streak halted on Sunday in Clarinda, 12-4.
So it looks like both Topeka and Chillicothe are within a half game of St. Joseph, and the Giants have a real opportunity to make up some ground this week.
