A late rally by the Giants fell short this afternoon, and the Ozark Generals defeated the Topeka Golden Giants, with 10 runs to Giants' 7. As in the second game last night, the Generals struck early, scoring 3 runs each in the 2nd, 4th and 6th innings.
Down nine runs the Giants' bats began to stir in the bottom half of the 6th, when hits by Sam Merrill and Brett Scott set up a 2-RBI base hit by a Joe Hosey.
The Giants struck back again in the 8th when Generals pitcher Zak Kinnison struggled with his control. Joe Hosey came to the plate, with the bases having been loaded by repeated walks. Hosey knocked in two more runs with a double down the right field line. The third Giants' run scored when Kennison then walked Chris Dobler and then hit Kevin Wempe with a pitch, forcing a run home. After a pitching change, the Giants' fourth and final run of the inning scored when an Austin Kirkwood chopper to short resulted in a throwing error.
The Giants and Generals both scored a single run in the 9th inning. The Giants' run scored when Ty Legan scored from third on an error. Legan had reached base via a walk, stolen 2nd and moved to third on base hit by Chad Griffen.
The Golden Giants are now 4-4 overall, 2-4 in the MINK.
